Would a previous severe allergic reaction to ethylene glycol be a contraindication to getting the Pfizer vaccine containing PEG?

Question:

Would a previous severe allergic reaction to ethylene glycol be a contraindication to getting the Pfizer vaccine containing PEG?

Answer:

Ethylene glycol (a component of antifreeze) is not in vaccines. Its name may sound similar to polyethylene glycol (PEG), which is found in some cosmetics, skincare products, laxatives, some processed foods and drinks and other products) but they are different substances with similar names. A serious life threatening allergy to PEG is a contraindication to receiving either mRNA vaccine. Please speak with your health care provider for further questions.
