When will the FluMist Quadrivalent be available in Nanaimo? My husband is 74 and I am 76, we both have respiratory issues. Thank you.
FLUMIST® QUADRIVALENT is not approved for use in those younger than 2 years or older than 59 years. You may be wondering about FLUZONE® HIGH-DOSE. This year in B.C., only those over 65 years of age living in long term care facilities and assisted living are eligible for the publicly funded (free) Fluzone® High-Dose. Canada’s National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommends that any of the available influenza vaccines may be used in people 65 and older. However, when available, NACI recommends that people 65 years of age and older should get Fluzone® High-Dose because it is expected to provide better protection compared to the other flu vaccines. For more information about Fluzone® High-Dose and which vaccine is right for you, talk to your health care provider.
Influenza vaccines are not yet available in the community. Please check our Influenza (Flu) Clinic Locator in October for flu clinics that provide publicly funded vaccine. You can contact your local pharmacy if you would like to purchase vaccine.
