Question:

Is there a charge for a Pneumonia vaccine? Some places I read that it is free for over 65 yrs with health issues (we are 71 and 72) yet we know of someone who is 70 who paid $100

Answer:

There are 2 pneumococcal (pneumonia) vaccines available in BC; PNEUMOVAX®23 (protects against 23 types of pneumococcal bacteria) and PREVNAR® 13 (protects against 13 types of pneumococcal bacteria).  In BC, PNEUMOVAX®23‎ vaccine is free for those with specific medical conditions and people 65 years of age and older. Many people receive it when they turn 65. A 2nd dose of this vaccine is recommended only for people with certain medical conditions. PREVNAR® 13 vaccine is also recommended and free for some people 5 years of age and older with certain medical conditions that put them at high risk of pneumococcal disease. It is also available to purchase for people who are not eligible but who want protection against pneumococcal bacteria. Read more here.
