Is the nasal flu mist the best recommendation for children under 7? If so, where can I get this? Thank you
The live-attenuated influenza (flu) vaccine (FluMist) is not preferentially recommended over the inactivated influenza (flu) vaccine (flu shot) for children. This is based on recommendations from Canada’s National Advisory Committee on Immunization.
Publicly funded FluMist is available at most public health units and some doctor's offices. For those not eligible for the publicly funded vaccine, it can be purchased at some pharmacies and travel clinics. Pharmacies are recommending that people call ahead regarding FluMist availability.
If you have further questions regarding this, we recommend that you contact your local public health unit and ask to speak with a public health nurse.
