My son had one Meningococcal C Conjugate vaccine last July in Vancouver. He is 3 years old. Since he came from Japan in 2016, it was first time for him to get it. I’m wondering if he should get second vaccination this year.
Children who have had a dose of Meningococcal C Conjugate after the age of 1 are up to date for Meningococcal C Conjugate vaccine. Your son will be offered a dose of Meningococcal Quadrivalent Vaccine in Grade 9. The meningococcal quadrivalent conjugate vaccine protects against infection from 4 types of meningococcal bacteria: types A, C, Y and W-135.
You will find more information about meningococcal vaccines here.
If you have more questions about vaccines, you can call your local health unit and ask to speak to a public health nurse. You can find the number here.
