Is it possible to only get the measles vaccine without the mumps, rubella and varicella portion for a 6 year old? He has had very bad reactions to other vaccines.
The measles vaccine is not available on it's own in Canada. In Canada, the measles vaccine is available as the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine and the MMRV (measles, mumps, rubella and varicella) vaccine so that a child can receive protection from several diseases with one shot.
We recommend that you discuss your child's situation further with a public health nurse or your family doctor who can make a recommendation for your child. You can find the contact information for your local public health unit here: http://www.immunizebc.ca/finder.
