I'm old, heart disease/diabetes, I should get a needle for shingles, as my wife was told she might have contracted it. Pls advise where/when
The shingles vaccine is recommended for people 60 years of age and older, however anyone 50 years of age and older can get the vaccine.
You can purchase the shingles vaccine at most travel clinics and pharmacies for about $200. If you purchase the vaccine at a travel clinic, a doctor or nurse on site will be able to immunize you. Most pharmacists in BC are also able to immunize. Some health insurance plans may cover the cost of the vaccine; you can check with your provider for this information.
If you would like to be immunized by your doctor, you can find out if your doctor's office has a supply of the shingles vaccine. The vaccine is not available for purchase from public health units.
You can find more information about the shingles vaccine in the HealthLinkBC File: Shingles Vaccine.
