Question:

I received first two HPV 2 in 2015 when I was 20 & I forgot to get my third HPV shot. I'm not sure whether I successfully got it done. Should I get the vaccine again?

Answer:

There are two HPV vaccines available in Canada: Cervarix® (HPV2) and Gardasil®9 (HPV9).  You will find more info here.

Both vaccines protect against 2 types of HPV that cause about 70% of cases of cervical cancer and 80% of cases of anal cancer. The HPV9 vaccine protects against 5 additional types of HPV that cause 15% to 20% of cervical cancers and 11% of anal cancers in women and 4% in men.

You can purchase the HPV9 vaccine series for protection against 9 types of HPV. The HPV9 vaccine is available for purchase at most pharmacies, travel clinics and some doctors' offices. A complete series of GARDASIL®9 is however recommended to ensure protection against the additional HPV types in the vaccine. We recommend that you discuss this further with the health care provider who gives you the vaccine.
