I noticed my last partner’s ex (she) had hpv and cervical cancer too. I was with this person 8 months ago. Would it be efficient to get a vaccine now? I am 40 and pap test is good
It is best to get immunized before becoming sexually active and coming in contact with HPV, because the vaccines prevent infection but do not clear it, however the HPV9 vaccine is recommended, (but not provided free) to adult women 19 to 45 years of age. You can find more information here and here.
The HPV9 vaccine can be purchased at most pharmacies and travel health clinics. Some private health insurance plans cover the cost of the vaccines.
Please speak to your health care provider if you have further questions.
