Question:

I lived in northern Alberta from 1956 - 1965 when I was a child. Would I have received a routine BCG vaccine. If I had received one would I still have the antibodies?

Answer:

We are not able to provide specifics about immunization schedules in Alberta and in the absence of having your immunization records it is not possible to know, but if you received the recommended schedule of the time, you may have received the BCG vaccine. According to the History of Immunization in Alberta, BCG was first available in January 1956 and on the schedule until August 9, 2007. You can find tips for finding immunization records here. According the the Canadian Immunization Guide, "the duration of protection is not well established. Although generally thought to have declining protection over time, one follow up study demonstrated a protective effect for as long as 60 years."
