Question:

I am allergic to PEG, the base of both Moderna and Pfizer vaccines. When can I expect to be able to get one of the alternatives, such as the Astrazenneca one?

Answer:

At this time, there are only two mRNA COVID-19 vaccines approved for use in Canada: the Pfizer vaccine and the Moderna vaccine. You cannot get a COVID-19 vaccine if you have had a life-threatening reaction (anaphylaxis) to a previous dose of the COVID-19 vaccine or to any other part of the vaccine (like polyethylene glycol - PEG - which is common in laxatives).

At this time, ImmunizeBC does not have information on when the next COVID-19 vaccine will be approved in Canada. Please continue to check back here, the BCCDC or Government of BC websites for vaccine approval updates.
