How effective is the 2020 flu vaccine?...

How effective is the 2020 flu vaccine?

We won't know the inluenza vaccine effectiveness until closer to the end of the flu season when info about people infected/sick/died are retrospectively analyzed. The vaccine effectiveness this year will be difficult to measure due to all of the public health measures in place for COVID-19.

According to the mid November report by BC Centre for Disease Control, there has been no indication of seasonal influenza virus in BC this fall. Even when there is a less-than-ideal match or lower effectiveness against one virus, the seasonal flu shot can still provide protection against the remaining two or three viruses. If you do get the flu, the flu shot may reduce the severity of flu-related complications. If you have further questions, check with your health care provider.
