Question:

Hi can my son start the first dose of the Men-C vaccine when he is 6 month old instead of the recommended 2 month old ? Thanks

Answer:

The recommended schedule was created to protect infants and young children early in life, when they are most vulnerable, and before they are potentially exposed to vaccine-preventable diseases. The schedule is safe and based on science. You can find more info here. Other than the risk with delaying immunization, there is no reason your son couldn't start the Men C at 6 months of age. We recommend that you talk to your health care provider or call your local health unit and ask to speak to a public health nurse if you have questions or concerns about the vaccine. You can find the number here.
