Hello , My son didn't take MEN-C vaccine , but he took Meningococcal Conjugate ACYW 135 one dose. does this Meningococcal Conjugate ACYW 135 cover all types of meningitis bacteria? if not , is he eligible for MEN-C to take it now? He is 7 years old. Also about HIV, is there a vaccine for it? Thx
The meningococcal quadrivalent vaccine protects against 4 types of meningococcal bacteria: types A, C, Y and W-135. It does not protect against type B. You can find more info about meningococcal disease and vaccines here. Please contact your local health unit and ask to speak to a public health nurse. You can find the number here. Please have your son´s immunization record with you for the call. They will be able to do an assessment of your son´s situation and make a recommendation. There is currently no vaccine available that will prevent HIV infection or treat those who have it. However, scientists are working to develop one. If you have further questions, please check with your public health nurse.
