I have an upcoming surgery. Is it safe for me to get vaccinated before/after my surgery?

Question:

I have an upcoming surgery. Is it safe for me to get vaccinated before/after my surgery?

Answer:

While most people can receive the vaccine safely, please speak with your primary health care provider if you have surgery shortly before or after getting your vaccine.  For example, some people develop a fever after they receive the vaccine and this could complicate your readiness for surgery or convalescence. The nurses at ImmunizeBC answer general immunization questions and cannot provide recommendations to individuals. If you are unable to reach your health care provider you can call 8-1-1 and speak with a nurse.

Please note that the circumstances around COVID-19 vaccines in BC are changing regularly, so this information may change.
