Are there any animal products(including pork) in the COVID-19 vaccine? If so, which ones have animal products?

Question:

Are there any animal products (including pork) in the COVID-19 vaccine? If so, which ones have animal products?

Answer:
Animal and human cell cultures may be used in the process of making certain vaccines, but the vaccines do not contain animal or human cells or tissue. The purification process removes nearly all of the cell components so that only trace amounts of DNA and protein may be present in the vaccine. So, there are no animal products in the five vaccines that are currently approved in Canada. While the AstraZeneca vaccine used chimpanzees during the development stage, animal cells are not in the final vaccine product.

This information could change as more vaccines with different ingredients are announced, so we recommend looking at the vaccine ingredient lists on this Health Canada website.
