Are pregnant people prioritized for the COVID-19 vaccine?
In BC, pregnant people are a priority group for the COVID-19 vaccine. For most people, getting a COVID-19 vaccine is the safest choice to protect them from COVID-19. While these vaccines have not yet been tested in those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, health experts in Canada agree that getting a COVID-19 vaccine is a reasonable choice for most pregnant and breastfeeding people.
- The Canadian Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (SOGC) has released the following consensus statement: “Pregnant individuals should be offered vaccination at any time during pregnancy or while breastfeeding if no contraindications exist”.
- Please review the BC Centre for Disease Control's COVID-19 planning for your vaccine handout. This handout is meant to help you make an informed choice about whether to get a COVID-19 vaccine while you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
You will need to make a decision based on your own comfort, your individual risk of getting COVID-19, and the chance that you may get seriously ill if you get infected. If you have further questions, please speak with your primary health care provider.
