Don't Let the Flu Get to You!

Emily Bara of Skeetchestn Indian Reserve lost her baby sister to the flu when they were children. Today she makes sure her great-grandchildren get their flu shots, taking them to the clinic so that they can get their shots together.

Her extended family has inherited her values around immunization and responsibility. In this video, they share why it's so important to have immunity from the flu. Read the video transcript here.

Each flu season, between 2000 and 8000 Canadians die from influenza. Most at risk of serious complications or death are adults over 65, individuals with chronic health conditions, and the very young. Protect the people you love who are vulnerable by getting your flu shot Many people are eligible to get it FREE! Use the BC flu clinic locator to find the most convenient options.

Our Family's Story: Cervical Cancer

Audra and her aunt Laura are strong believers in the HPV vaccine, for good reason: Gisel, Audra’s mother and Laura’s older sister, died from cervical cancer at only 38.

Cervical cancer is very treatable when detected early by Pap testing: 12,000 procedures are done each year in BC to stop pre-cancerous cervical changes from advancing. But now thousands of women can avoid the pain and discomfort of treatment thanks to the HPV vaccine, which protects against the viruses that cause 70% of cervical cancer cases.

Audra’s 11-year-old daughter, Alexandria, will receive her vaccine this year. Laura’s daughter, Amanda, is now 14 and was one of the first girls vaccinated through an HPV study at BC Children’s Hospital in 2007. In this video they share their story. Read the video transcript here.
