ImmunizeBC launched the I Have Immunity campaign in April 2011 to raise awareness about the value of immunization to protect your health. While immunization is recognized as one of the most important public health achievements of all time, it has been so effective that many people now worry more about the very small risks of immunization than the much larger risks of vaccine-preventable disease.
That’s why I Have Immunity is building a community of immunization supporters, or "Boosters," who share information and real stories about the value of immunization! By sharing stories and facts, we plan to educate communities around the province about why immunization is still an important part of staying safe and healthy.
I Have Immunity is a project of ImmunizeBC.
Our immunization Boosters are keen supporters of the campaign. In medical terms, a “booster” is a supplementary dose of the vaccine that increases immunity and long-term protection against disease. An immunization Booster in the I Have Immunity campaign is a person who increases the effects of immunization education and awareness by sharing information, campaign stories, and resources. Find out more about being a booster here!
Our Boosters are folks from all over BC: some are public health nurses, pharmacists, or doctors; others are students, professionals, stay-at-home parents or retirees.
Stories are memorable, emotional, and relatable. These qualities make them highly effective teaching tools. We don’t substitute stories for hard facts and data; we use them together so that the information is simpler to understand and share. For the purposes of the campaign, we are collecting personal stories to complement the immunization facts and statistics that are widely available to the public.
It’s easy to think immunizations aren’t a big deal, especially since many of us are fortunate to have never seen a case of measles or meningococcal disease. Hearing someone’s first-hand experience with one of these diseases or their complications can put the facts into context.
There are lots of ways you can support the campaign, whether you have a lot of time to share or just a little!
