Question:

We are travelling from NZ to vancouver with our child who will be 11 months. in NZ MMRV is given at 15 months so he would have missed out on this. can he get this in Canada and at what cost? IN NZ any foreign unimmunised child can get vaccines on our schedule for free. Is this reciprocal in BC?

Answer:

Travelers to BC from outside of Canada may be immunized according to the BC routine schedule while they are in the province.  Vaccines provided as part of the routine schedule are publicly funded (free) and are available from public health units.  Vaccines that are not publicly funded in BC can be purchased at travel clinics

We recommend that you contact the local public heatlh unit and ask to speak with a public health nurse. The public health nurse can gather more information from you and can make a recommendation for your child.
