Question:

I am born in 1994 but did not get the HPV vaccine in high school. I just switched to an Ontario health card, and am wondering if I can get the vaccine for free if I travel to BC?

Answer:

While in BC, non-residents can receive publicly funded (free) vaccines that they meet the eligibility criteria for from their local public health unit . (A female born in 1994 meets BC's eligibility criteria for the free HPV vaccine up to age 26. Eligibility criteria differ for males).  The vaccine is given as a series of 3 shots at 0, 2 and 6 months. A health card need not be presented in public health settings.  Publicly funded vaccines are also available from some pharmacies and doctors' offices. However, non-residents may be charged a vaccine administration fee in these settings.
