It is not safe for a 2-month-old to have contact with anyone who has pertussis (whooping cough), regardless of whether or not they have received their 2-month vaccines. Infants need multiple doses of the pertussis vaccine to be protected and even when the recommended number of doses have been received, protection cannot be guaranteed.

As expected there have been sporadic cases of pertussis throughout BC however, the number of cases remain at baseline levels.  An outbreak is defined as an increase in the rate of pertussis infection over that which is normally expected in a defined area or time.

Canada’s National Advisory Committee on Immunization recommends that all adults receive one dose of tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) vaccine if they have not previously received a pertussis-containing vaccine in adulthood.
